ERIKA ALIN
Anna liked to walk the shallow bay with a net and bucket, trying to catch silvery fish fry. Periwinkles, mussels, and starfish clung to rocks under the water. If Anna stood perfectly still, she might see a crab or feel a fry nibble her skin.
On the beach, Fisher Kalle loaded his net and lobster tin into a small wooden boat. Kalle mostly caught cod, herring, and halibut, and Anna’s favorite fish, mackerel. If he got a good catch, he rode the dirt roads selling his fish from a box on his bicycle.
Anna looked at the fry in her bucket and wondered, What kinds of fish will they one day become?
