Coffee Gathering

One afternoon, Anna’s grandmother hosted a coffee gathering. Anna picked flowers and helped set the picnic table with gold-rimmed coffee cups, glasses, and a pitcher of raspberry juice.

While her grandmother greeted the guests, she carried out the desserts: A ring of pastry with a buttery filling and pearl sugar on top. A sliced roll cake with vanilla crème and jam inside. Seven kinds of cookies, the number served by a proper Swedish hostess, and finally a strawberry cake.

Anna stood back to admire the table. What a feast!
