Of all the fruits and berries that grew in the garden, Anna liked the black currants the best. She drank currant juice with dinner and ate currant preserves with buttermilk for breakfast and ice cream for dessert.
One evening, she picked a bowl of berries while her grandmother made thin, buttery pancakes. She spread preserves on her pancake and spooned whipped cream and berries on top. She was too impatient to wait for her grandmother to sit down and say varsågod, please begin.
Instead, she stole one sweet berry after another from the bowl.
